Our opinion is that autumn is the best time to visit Istria. Summer crowds dissipate and the region becomes relaxed and calm. It is a time when grapes and olives get picked and turned in to amazing wine and world famous olive oil, truffle hunters set off to a new season of harvesting the magical truffle, and mushrooms start growing everywhere - the local gastronomy scene flourishes in all its glory. Fishermen bring their best catch of the year and prosciutto and cheese producers roll out their new products. The weather and air temperature is just perfect and locals are happy and satisfied that the summer craziness is finally over. The relaxing atmosphere takes over the whole region and it is impossible for you to feel any different than relaxed and happy.

It is indeed a feast for all of your senses.

On day one you will arrive to Istria and check in to the hotel. After the meeting with your tour guide the rest of the first day is off.

Your first tour is on schedule on sunday, the day after your arrival. There is a food festival in Istria every sunday of autumn. The usual themes are seafood, truffles, prosciutto, wine, olive oil or mushrooms. Of course it's never just the single product that you get to taste, it's always a mix of all listed themes, but the main star of the event is just one of them. Besides visiting the food festival, you will have lunch in a local tavern and visit a location or two in Istria depending on where the food festival is.

On day three you will visit Pula, Istrias biggest city and its historical and cultural hub. The tour will start with a visit to the city market and fishery where you will see what are the usual, everyday ingredients of Istrian food. After that you will continue your tour through the city and visit the olive oil museum where you will have the opportunity to taste various olive oils from different istrian producers and learn more about the oil itself. Then it will be time for lunch, which will be served in a local winery and paired with some amazing wines. When you finish your lunch you will head to the town of Vodnjan where, besides sightseeing, you will visit a local museum and find out more about how life looked like here a hundred years ago.

On day four you will have the whole day for yourself.

Today you will visit one of the most charming hilltop towns in Istria, the town of Motovun. You’ll do a bit of sightseeing and tasting of amazing truffle products. After that you’ll participate in a truffle hunt in the forest, accompanied by a truffle hunter and his dogs. When you catch some truffles, you will take them to the hunters house where they will be prepared for you for lunch! After finishing the truffle experience, you will head to the town of Buzet where you will taste some of the most amazing liquors produced in Istria.

On day six you will visit the “old” Istria. You will visit the towns of Gračišće and Plomin where you will discover amazing architecture, hear about their fascinating history and have lunch in a local tavern. When you finish your lunch, you will go to the city of Labin for some more sightseeing and a great wine and olive oil tasting in a 500 years old palace.

Your last day will take you to three nearly abandoned towns in Istria. First is the town of Grožnjan which got its second chance with the colonisation of numerous different artists which transformed the nearly abandoned town into a vibrant artist colony. After Grožnjan you will visit Završje which wasn’t so lucky – it’s almost completely abandoned, but it gives an amazing insight in life after people. The third location is somewhere inbetween, not completely abandoned, but also not flourishing with life. What saves it is the fact that there is one of the best taverns in Istria where you will have an amazing traditional lunch paired with Istrian wines. After you finish your lunch you will head to the last stop of the day – an amazing wine tasting of 15 different Istrian wines.

After breakfast you will check-out and head back home.
